No, they definitely favor the gas-powered models. It's a shame. I'd love to be able to disarm them by pulling the plug. :DOriginally posted by mimi_s_mum:

I'd been trying to take them out for about 18 months with lopper and garden saw. Within three weeks of buying this baby, there were all gone.

    Sweeeet!

  2. I've had one in the past, but not now. Glad to hear your chainsaw is such a help with the outdoor chores.I am a fan of zombie-centric video games. My player character has had his/her head sawed off quite a few time by chainsaw-wielding zombies. :yikes: Fortunately this has only been a temporary setback in my character's efforts to complete his/her mission. 😆

  4. I still havent got one of those, i have borrowed a mates though, nice tools 😀

  5. Yes, this gets the job done quick. I had several ugly overgrown coniferous shrubs in our section. I'd been trying to take them out for about 18 months with lopper and garden saw. Within three weeks of buying this baby, there were all gone. 😀

  6. The last time I did anything like this, I removed a dead, ornamental tree (I think it was a crabapple tree). I used a bow saw. It took me awhile to get the tree down, but then I had to cut it into manageable pieces, and then tie them into bundles. Every Monday our city's garbage service sends folks around to collect "lawn waste", so that's what happened to my tree.More recently (about a year and a half ago), we had decided that we needed to get rid of our overgrown shrubs. After debating the matter, we decided to hire someone to do it for us. Maybe I should have bought a new chainsaw instead. The last time we owned a chainsaw was years ago when we lived in Texas.

The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming, until I realised I now had three big unsightly piles of sawn off branches to get rid of. 🙁

You are lucky. We need to take garden rubbish to the tip ourselves and pay a disposal fee.Originally posted by debplatt:

It depends how busy you are, I think. I'm a freelancer working from home and can have a considerable down-time while waiting for job. But for people with regular jobs, doing it yourself would be awfully time consuming. I also have a wood burning heater and I could make use of larger branches and rounds from trunks as firewood. Do you have a wood burner or fireplace at you home?

Guess what? We have to pay for this service whether we use it or not! The way it works is that our town's government assesses us fees for the service (no choice there), and then they take this money to hire a private company to actually provide the service. So every Monday a truck comes round to pick up lawn clippings, branches, etc. None of the material can be loose; it has to be bagged, bound by twine, etc. I hardly ever use this service, but there you go. On every Tuesday two trucks come by. One collects the garbage and the other collects the recyclables.Originally posted by mimi_s_mum:

We do have a wood-burning fireplace. Bob's usually the one starting and tending the fire, but I have to say on a cold, snowy day, there's something delightful about it. 🙂

  10. Well, if you are paying, you might as well use the service. Originally posted by debplatt:

Oh, yes. Nothing quite like watching the blaze of good fire and feeling the heat radiating at you. No technology such as the heat pump can replace that.

It's not that I have a need for the service and don't use it. I just don't need it. Our lawn mower mulches the grass to bits, so there are no lawn clippings to dispose of. And since all the large shrubs were removed and replaced by young shrubs, there is no pruning to do, so no branches to dispose of.Originally posted by mimi_s_mum:

Very enjoyable to get a campfire going when camping, too!

Oh, yes. And even better if your dinner is being cooked on it! And toasting marshmallows for snack. 😀

  15. I haven't seen the film yet. But I know the title and that pretty much explains what you'd expect to see in the film, right? Now I've made a former Texan talk about chainsaw … :yikes: What have I done!? :faint:

  17. Your large laugh says a lot about your tiny outdoors (garden ?) !!

  18. No, it was about how heavy a 30m trade grade extension cord is. 🙂 I' probably need to borrow another extension when I deal with low branches of the overgrown radiata pines at upper end of our section. I'd rather want to have the whole trees taken out, but it would be a very costly professional job. 🙁

According to IMDB, Round Rock, Texas was among the filming locations. I happened to have lived in Round Rock, Texas for half a dozen years. Coincidence?

  20. Here's the guy that was always chasing me all over the place in my video game.

Let's see if he's still laughing when I get a new chainsaw and a very, very long extension cord.

Actually I've never seen the movie. But I wouldn't be surprised if the above character is an homage to the movie villain. A chainsaw-wielding fiend has become a staple in the game series, and their face is always hidden in a bag.The way the game is set up, if your character signals that he is reloading his weapon, he just stops and stands there for however long it takes to do so. So that's the classic way to die when facing the guy above. You're not paying attention to how many rounds you have left. You attempt to fire an empty weapon, and this triggers the reload sequence while this guy is bearing down on you. Then you die a horrible death. Followed by a message which says, "You are dead…. Continue?"

  24. Even if you take him out (and if you do, you're rewarded with a large sum of cash — important for buying provisions because you are working for a huge multinational organization that only supplied you with a revolver and ten bullets to begin with)… even if you do take him out, you never get to see his face. However, I'm guessing that it at least has human features, which is more than I can say of many of the other baddies.

  25. My daughter doesn't like these sort of games since "dying" in the game is troublesome to her. But I've died so many times in these games that I hardly bat an eye when it happens. 😀

  26. Almost over, which is not a bad thing. Library DVD collections, especially the young adult collection, tend to get very thin during school holidays. I wanted to borrow New Moon to watch over weekend with a friend. But all of the 13 copies available at Wellington City libraries are out. 😮 I could've placed a reserve earlier, but it'd cost extra.

  28. You are probably right. However I have a brand, new Nintendo Wii game (Red Steel 2) that I haven't even started yet. I am trying to learn new technical stuff right now so I can go off and have an adventure in the business world.

  29. I am guessing from the sack on his head that its not George Clooney hiding under there

I have trained with "Dark Forces" from Lucasart
… I would be less accurate than you, probably … I have stayed with Dos games in the end; with a few Mo, sometimes 100-200 Ko you had the same thrill than today with 1 Go … and less violent.
