Therapeutic roofing

After a great start in the brilliant early summer, my roof painting project, the project-R has not taken off as much as I'd have liked.

Today after a month of non-roofing, finally the conditions were right AND I felt motivated. I was going to work on roof only till lunch time. But the conditions were so good and with encouragement from my friend DH, I decided to continue in the afternoon. It was hot and hard work, but therapeutic and grand at the same time. …

I still need to remove lots of rusty roof nails, treat the rusty spots and replace with nail screw, before I can start painting. I finally learned to do it in somewhat systematic way. Now and then when my back became stiff or arm aching, I'd stand up, stretch and enjoy the view 😉

Project-RMore photos of my roof work today and before are in the photo album, Project-R. Click on the thumbnail on left to visit.

  1. My dear…..I have to say, I do like the first picture as an idea of roofing. I CAN DO THAT!!!!Love the second photo as well. Simply stunning.

😆 Yes, the roof has the perfect pitch for that kind of roofing operation 😀 You can get your monkeys to help out, too, can't you? ;)@Deb

  3. Thanks, DH. Just spent another two hours tackling another double line of rusty nail heads like this one. Didn't have the smoko lie-down today because I was working on the side facing the neighbour's house. 😀 Will put rust converter on the rusty spots before lunch, then plan to put the gripset over the spots treated yesterday before driving screws in. ;)The agency has another translation job lined up for me, due to come in this evening. I want to get done as much as I can today before I get stuck inside.

  4. Thanks, DH. I've certain done the majority of rusty nail heads. :happy:Have you started your summer painting, yet? 😀

  5. Yes, I have a new canvas and watercolours at the ready, just need to find my paintbrushes 😆

  6. Could you imagine me painting? Its worse than cutting the grass :yuck:

  7. Ah, yes. I remember that. :yes:Oops. It's almost 2 o'clock. I'd better go off for the roof again. Thanks for the chat, DH. TTFN

  8. Here is an experiment with pen… A sketch of my beloved bike, of course

    Actually, yeah 😀

  10. Back on earth :DI wanted to do more but the drill battery has gone flat, so I called it a day.

 Indeed it's a very comfortable position, Angelika. 😉 Even the work is not so bad considering the dollars I'm saving by doing it myself. And the views are great bonus. 🙂

  13. Hi MM, this looks very comfortable with you on the roof. If, indeed, if the chore was not lurking in the background. But it certainly makes fun with this prospect.

  14. The monkeys and I would be delighted to do that….in fact we can do it all day long.

Don't we just love it when our tools tell us to take a break! :p.

Have you booked your flight yet? :pOriginally posted by qlue:

Just the excuse I needed! :pActually I think the battery is dying. The last time I used it despite I had charged it for 6 hours, its torque started to drain only after 10 minutes or so of running time. Looks like I'll have to get a new one. 🙁

Probably NiCd batteries! They're really bad that way! You can get new batteries if you look real hard! :left:.That's what I hate about battery tools! :awww:.

  18. You can get the batteries in your old drill replaced, check out trademe, I think the laptop shop does it… Just buy a cheapie to get you by while you wait 😀

  19. Yeah, the drill's over 10 years old. It's time I replaced it. The lower price range cordless drills often come with a spare battery included, so I might go for that, or see if it's worthwhile to pay extra for a higher level make. More expenses! :irked:

  20. Given my drill's age and being a basic light DIY/hobby model, probably buying anew works out cheaper than getting this one fixed. I'll see what my hardware store boys have to say about it. 😉

  21. I'm thinking about Bosch, too. Basic level cordless are not that expensive any more. 🙂

    😆 Good observation.

  26. Back from the store. :DWith recommendation by my trusty powertool guy at the hardware store, I've bought Bosch PSR 10.8 LI :cool:Aadil's point about avoiding NiCd battery operated tools and DH's recommendation for Bosch were also taken on board. Thanks guys. Charging now

  27. Thank you, Jill. Roof painting is very therapeutic. I recommend to anyone without pathological fear of height.

:lol:You can just help out at the repair/prep stage 😀

  29. Today i shall rest, not because I have done anything, just because I can 😆

  30. Oh, no! I've just found a big patch of rust hidden under paint! It's straight above the bathroom and the rust is actually eating out the iron from underneath. And I can feel a little moisture inside. I don't understand where the moisture is coming from. No ventilation duct or anything into the roof space. Maybe a leak on the hotwater pipe, but then it'd show on the ceiling. :confused:I've took off the rusted through part of iron, which made a hole size of small fist, and temporarily patched it with aluminium plubming tape. But don't know what to do with it. Roofing is NOT always therapeutic 😥
