To My Opera dev team

I would like to share with you my message to the My Opera Community Development team I left at their blog.

Hi team,

Thought I’d just drop in here to say thank you for your hard work. (Since the announcement post is now plagued by ungrateful negative comments.)

I have had a wonderful time blogging and photo-sharing at My Opera, met special people and made great friends. You have given us such an easy platform to meet and share. There is simply nothing else like my.opera.com. And we have been so blessed to have the service of dedicated people, Andreas, RobertJ, Espen, Esteban, nicomen, who would work late, weekend or even when being sick to fix issues for us. Thank you so so much.

Four more months and we will part ways. I would like to wish you all the best for your future, career-wise as well as your personal happiness. Live long and prosper, my friends. :spock:

Right now we are all pre-occupied with the future of our own little precious content and its sharing. However we must remember this management decision to close My Opera has affected or will inevitably affect the lives of our community dev team members. And, to me, they are not just developers. They are real people with names, faces and lives.

RobertJ has already moved to the main website dev team for some time. I think Espen also now works in another team, possibly marketing. Esteban (zoso) might have already moved on. Haven’t seen Nicolas (nicomen) for quite some time. Andreas (digmed) has gallantly managed the community forum front almost all by himself. What will he do after the 1st of March? Will his employment be secure?

Blogs and digital photos are just binary strings. What more important to me are the people and memories of them. Now you have read this little post of mine, you now know at least the names of our community devs.

:coffee:

[Update]
As you can see below, Andreas assured me he wouldn’t be going astray after My Opera.
Meanwhile I forgot to mention the young man (?) Zbigniew, who stepped in to front the ” Disabled account – report it here!” thread at the community forum while Andreas was on holidays. I haven’t had a direct conversation with him. Sorry about that. 😮

  1. Thanks Deb. And I see you've been to the devblog post and left a comment. Thank you. I consider them more friends than just "developers". When something went wrong, a site issue or a friend wrongly banned, I would give then a shout and they'd fix it for us. They are our heroes. :knight: Yet very few members actually know what they have been doing for us.

  2. Thank you for your kind words, MM!I appreciate you being worried about my employment 🙂 I'm currently still working on keeping My Opera up and running until March 1st together with another developer, Zbigniew. I'm also working on the new forums that will eventually replace the My Opera forums. I can't say much more about that, although I'm sure plenty of people have questions/comments about that 🙂 Once the new forums go live I'll most likely be transferred to a different project at Opera. We have lots of cool stuff to do here

Thanks for your efforts. I immediately use the opportunity to ask a question:Will there be a notification in *these* forums/blogs when the new forums are opened?I hope it's the answerable kind of question :)@Mimi's Mum: Wonderful comment you made to them. They will inevitably get some inspiration from it!

  4. Hi Andreas, Welcome to my blog!! :DIt was my pleasure to publish a post to thank you. After all what you have done for us, it was the least I could do. (I overlooked Zbigniew. 😮 Will add him shortly)And good to know you have no worry with your future employment. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with whatever you'll be doing.@ersiThanks for your complement. 🙂

Glad to hear peeps are still employed

  6. What a wonderful, gracious post! Andreas, I realize the forums will be changed somewhat, and these are silly questions: will we still have smileys? Will there be a new Lounge, and a test forum?
