Dance of summer breeze

We, the photography group Shoot&Tell members had the silhouette theme for the last fortnight. It was an interesting and intriguing theme to work on.

Initially I was a bit reluctant, because it seemed the detail focused images would be more relevant than silhouette here in NZ especially now being the height of summer and all. However as I watched other's creativity being exploded on this theme, my reluctance became an enthusiasm. Especially after Deb pointed out I have the perfect object here right outside my lounge. (I'm always slow to catch on :p) …

I was particularly fascinated by how the thin but patternless net curtain dancing in the summer breeze against the setting sun created an incredibly mesmerising effect, so mesmerising that I took literally dozens of photos. Now what do I do with all those photos?

The natural approach is to follow my S&T friends' leads and create collages. It was a rather nice surprise that the collages turned out quite, almost equally or even more mesmerising than seeing a stand alone picture of this theme. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. 😉

Note: the full size collages linked from these smaller images are quite large.

  1. Good evening for you, MM. Very nice pictures and the animated gif version looks very inviting. I'm really looking forward to spring/ summer.

  2. Hi Angelika. Did you like the animated gif version? I only discovered yesterday that my trusty FastStone Viewer can do this trick. The most difficult part was to set the rate of picture change. Originally posted by Chamaeleo:

Another two month to the equinox then straight to summer from there

  3. I'm on my phone right now so the images are shrunken. But I still see what you mean about the collage conveying the movement better than any individual photo. When I visit next on my computer, I'll check out the animated gif.

  4. Yes, I really like the animated gif version. Originally posted by mimi_s_mum:

That's life! In two months it's our turn. :flirt:

  8. Love your silhouettes MM, and the animated gif version is quite mesmerizing. You are a very talented photographer.

  9. Thank you, Helen. It was the setting, the curtains, open French door and the tree and the players, the setting sun and the breeze, that made the pictures so good. I just managed to catch the moments by use of the continuous shutter mode. I'm glad how well the collages turned out. The animated gif was created as a sort of joke item thanks to DH. 😆 Turned out rather effective.

  10. Thanks, Steffi. Summer's taking a holiday for last couple of days. Wellington managed a maximum temp of meagre 13.8°C yesterday. :(Originally posted by wellisteffi:

    That'd make a great animated gif image 😆 :p

  11. Hi Annette 🙂 Glad you liked the pictures. The animated gif is a very new technology to me and I had no idea how it would turn out. I'm glad it's surprisingly effective. Originally posted by SummerAngel:

Thank you for your kind words, Annette.

  12. I can not, unfortunately, I`m a PC novice. Is there with you in the winter snow? Then you can even make it in 2 months.

  13. We don't get much snow around Wellington. Earliest snow may fall in late June up on the hills, usually during night. Falling snow collage may be a truly fascinating thing to make, but not realistic thing I can try. Originally posted by wellisteffi:

I can walk you through the steps, if you like 😉

  14. I like my grass to be brown, short and unlikely to grow for a very long time 😀

  15. It hasnt stopped yet, now my grass will start growing again :furious:

  16. :coffee: may be more appropriate for the time of day. :DWas very wet yesterday. Your end had a good drench, too?

  18. Adding music is beyond me, sorry. But I recommend "To Be Over" from "Relayer" 😉 (I don't think I need to say who the musicians are :p)Looks like it's going to be another stuck-indoors kind of day :coffee:

  19. True. ;)OK. I'd better go clear out the cupboard and get ready for the loft inspection. I was going to go to my hardware store and check out the ladders today, but not sure it'll be a good ladder shopping day. (My car is a small hatch. I'd have to have the end of ladder sticking out with hatch door open. :p)TTFN. :bye:

  20. It's warming up, though. 15.5°C right now. Will be fine in shorts and T-shirt in no time. 😀

  21. That's no good. It's been dry here since about 11. The asphalt are now dry and blue has just started to appear in the sky here and there. 🙂
