Everyone, meet … me

I would like you all to meet mimismum, my secondary account. 😀 …

The reason why I am introducing her to MM's World is the upcoming demolition of the private message system. From next month, we can no longer use our beloved venerable PM, and have to use our new myopera.com mail account (No community BB code!)

The problem is, I can't use myopera.com mail, because I have _ in my username. 🙁 (Not the first time I was inconvenienced by this _ issue. First it was the Unite, then I was blocked from using Link, then, when I was testing the beta myopera.com mail, I was told my account will be deleted.)

Still, not giving in and sticking to my guns is the better option. As I stated here:

Why don't you just rename your current account

According to this post at the community developers' blog, '… content linked from within blog posts will still point to the old username.' So the links with old username would be broken if I changed my username. Not an acceptable option. Beside mimi_s_mum is a time honoured handle, used since 1998 at various internet services and forums. I intend to keep it.

So from now on, could you please use mimismum @ myopera.com (remove unnecessary spaces) to send me your email messages? That would save me from PMing your PM to myself for archiving in random order. Thanks. 🙂

  1. I myself prefer serif to sans-serif. (I suppose I could modify my CSS to change the blog font to Georgia. I may try it next time I feel like playing with the CSS ;))In addition to "qlue" vs "glue", there's also "qlue" vs "9lue" and "qlue" vs "plue" :pPSLOL "qlue" looks even more confusing when typed in courier new 😆

  2. You're a sans-serif guy, aren't you? Is it from your draughtsmanship?

  3. The AS1100 Drafting Standard has its own font, but Tahoma and Arial are approved replacements 🙂

  4. The Rotrings were the direct descendants of the Koh-I-Noor Rapidographs, as I recall … I still have a bunch, and two sets (I think) of Alvin drafting pens, and some miscellaneous ones my daughter had in her stuff. The real "standard" of lettering sets were, of course, the K&E Leroy sets … they came with various sized templates that were to be traced by the little tracing tool we called "the bug". There were Leroy pens, of course, but most drafting pen manufacturers could see the writing on the wall, and made their pens to fit the Leroy pen socket, so one didn't need to switch. I believe I've still got most of mine.

  5. You shouldn't be writing on walls, even if you have a stencil. 😉

  6. Something that surprises me still is the number of (particularly Architectural) drafting that is still done by hand.

  7. Rotring pens were very cool in a steady hand, but could create a big mess as well, if not careful. Tracing paper and Rotring pen were, and still are, great for copying maps and producing topographical diagrams, such as vegetation maps and route maps. :DOriginally posted by Mickeyjoe-Irl:

Creativity and hand are synonyms in my dictionary 😉

  8. My guess is 20 years for cerebral interfaces to become usable and widely accepted. I'd think a helmet-like device over head would be a lot more readily accepted than surgical embedding of an interface apparatus. Another possibility is an application of the "nano" technology, tiny tiny intelligent particles injected in blood stream move into the brain across the blood-brain barrier and establish themselves at strategic points to monitor neural network activities. We Are Borg. You Will Be Assimilated. Resistance Is Futile. 😆

  9. I wonder for how much longer though, it will soon be a little wi-fi device embedded in your brain, scary thoughts eh?

  10. If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain… The Matrix

Perception IS the reality IMHO. 😉

  12. Enjoy, I got a book voucher for Christmas so purchased a few, I also got Enders Game and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep

  13. Bllod Music is one of Greg Bears better efforts if I remember rightly, I have just read Hull Zero Three, which was also rather good.

I'm yet to read it. I shall try find a copy in the library website. Thanks 🙂

Great classics! :yes:My favourite Card has to be Songmaster. As to PKD, he wrote so many good books that I can hardly choose, but, the Electric Sheep would certainly make the top 5. 😀

  16. I heard this scifi folklore (not confirmed by Wikipedia) that PKD walked out of a private screening of some part of the film. Unfortunately he never got to see the whole thing. He died 4 months before the release of the film.Card's narrative has almost a mesmerising quality in it, which I could feel even from Japanese translation. I did read Xenocide (the third book of the Ender chronicle) in English. I'd describe his narrative as muled wine, warm, sweet and quite destructive :DI'd better go and start working. Thanks for stopping by. TTFN :bye:

  17. I have wanted to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for a long time now, I was concerned that having seen Bladrunner would ruin it but to my pleasant surprise, quite the reverse. Enders Game has also been a long time on the list of things to read and I was just as impressed as I expected to be, Card is a very good writer and very thought provoking too

  18. Thanks for the info on Adobe Flash. I have tried to download it quite a few times and it won't load. It keeps telling me to close Opera and then I get a message that says my Flash Player Settings Manager is open. Please close Flash Player Settings Manager and try again. How do I do this? Thanks again for your help.

  19. Hi, Cherie. Welcome to my site. :)I've posted a reply to your original topic. So take a look. I have never had the kind of issue you are having. Not sure I know well enough to help you. By sharing your issue in the original forum topic, someone else should be able to help, I think.Re the Flash Player Settings Manager, I'm thinking the flash for IE might have started the process of automated update and interfering with the non-IE installation. I would try opening the manager, it is assessable from Control Panel in XP, and changing the setting to "Never check for updates" under "Advanced" tab. And, as I posted in your original forum topic, it would be best if you saved the installer rather than choosing the "Open" option.Hope this helps. Otherwise, I recommend you continue your trouble shooting in your original forum thread. Good luck. 😉
