The New Year's Eve was another beautiful day in Wellington, New Zealand. I was hoping for a clear evening for the perfect sunset photo. But there were some clouds over the western horizon. I settled for the old trick of capturing the setting sun in the foliage of cabbage tree. Satisfied, I went inside to attend some inside business (naturally).
When I came back to the lounge a half an hour later, this is what I saw. …
Actually this is not exactly what I saw. The manual adjustment of white balance and delayed capture, as well as the camera's tendency to emphasise contrast created the dramatic effect. But it was still a stunningly beautiful sunset. Trust the Sun Goddess to pull the trick like that on the last day of the year.
Happy New Year everyone.
Have a great New Year Mimi!:)
Thank you and welcome to my site, Arvind :)And Happy New Year to you!

:lol:You are most welcome, Olivier 😀
Happy New Year, Deb. And may Amaterasu frequent your part of world more and warm you up. 🙂
Great picture, sunshine! :yes:Originally posted by debplatt:

Loved your sunset pictures. Amaterasu did herself proud. :happy:Have a happy and prosperous New Year (it has yet to arrive here, but I have my sparkling apple juice at the ready :headbang: )
Well, I'm going to go for the evening. Have a good first day of 2011!

😆 No, I hadn't noticed that. That's funny. Kind of like your mum telling you how you should dress before she'll let you out of the house. :p
😆 Yeah, one of those teenager things. You'd rather suffer the hypothermia and pneumonia than seen in the drab sweater! :lol:I was actually referring to the layer to temperature ratio, BTW 😉

It was 54F / 12 C when we were cycling; I was comfortable wearing a long-sleeve tea shirt and gigantic orange thingy (to keep me from getting hit by a car — and it worked!). But when I stopped, I was feeling chilly and pulled on a jacket. But I might not be as hardy as the typical New Zealander. 😉
😎 the first comment of the year is for me !!!!
.

Simply Stunning MM, thank you for sharing the last sunset in 2010 in your home country with us. Happy new year.

Thank you, Helen. I should imagine the sunset from your place would be even a lot better, with that wild country as the backdrop
We do indeed have spectacular sunsets and sunrises MM, I have just a few photos of the vicinity I live in a album called "My world" here. I am not sure if I have all the photos in there that I have taken over the years but there are some fair ones. Not as spectacular as yours though as I am quite an bad photographer Hahahaha.

Do you mind if I take a look (and possibly post comments)? I've gone as far as the album photo-list page. But noticed all pics had 0 views. And you have not enabled the menu button for photos for a reason, have you? (Or you've simply forgotten? :p)I'm not that good a photographer, either. But I've noticed a little improvement lately thanks to the influence of my photography group friends. I also try to take several shots with slightly different settings (such as zoom level) and changing angles, which seems to help as well. Aadil, I understand some of Sami's superb pictures were taken with cellphone camera. So there's no excuse in that angle. 😀
Oliver (arduinna) frequently takes spectacular photos with his cell phone. All my cell phone photos are horrible. :awww:
It all depends on the phone. My phone's camera is stuck with only a very wide angle lens. Fine for landscapes, but virtually useless for anything else. :awww:.(I can get some reasonable 'macro' shots by holding a jewelers loupe in front of the lens though. :left:)

Ah, the old hardware problem. :awww: Maybe time for a proper compact digital camera? The basic ones these days are still pretty good and a way cheaper than it used to be. 😉
I will put the photo's menu button up especially for you dear.
No if it is easier this way then that is fine with me. 🙂
Thank you, Helen. I personally don't mind having to type the URL to go there. I just wanted to make sure you're happy for me to see the pics and make comments. 😉
Cheers, Helen 🙂
