The drought is over (or not)

New Zealand has been in a major drought this summer. Wellington is not normally know for being too dry. But this summer lack of rain actually forced the council to declare an outdoor watering ban. Even use of watering can was banned, unless you collected kitchen rinsing or otherwise wasted water such as the cold water from hot water tap you would normally let run down the drain.

Luckily the substantial rain in mid March helped the gardeners and farmers, although the water ban continued until last week.

Somehow, about the same time as the actual drought, I have been having a drought of my own. I have not been around my opera lately or done much of blogging or photo-sharing. I was very busy until end of March and that certainly reduced my free time. I am less busy right now. But somehow (two somehows in one paragraph! :yuck:) I am not quite sure if I can resume the level of blogging and photo-sharing I used to do.

I think I will just keep things low key for a bit longer, perhaps a couple of months, maybe longer. I'll log on & check subscriptions maybe once a week, rather than twice a day. I'll try publishing a blog post once a month, rather than three or four a month. I'll try photo-sharing perhaps once or twice a month, rather than taking photo every day. Just keeping things easy, and see how I go. 😉

  1. Nice you showed up … I decided last night that I had better start looking you up, because you had been invisible recently.

  2. Sorry about causing concern, dW. I did tweet a bit. But my opera takes a bit more mental energy than occasional out of whim tweets. 😉

  3. I've been hoping the drought won't affect my waterfall pics this autumn (when I tend to take the more often). It's been tough also on the local arthropod population.Appreciate that real-life can really get in the way of blogging also- just remember to come back when you can 🙂

  4. Thanks, Brendan. I saw your waterfall photos. The richness of colours, probably due to the film you were using, are amazing. The work orders slowed right down this months; and the summer veg gardening is in the last stretch: the last lot of peppers and sprouting broccoli to harvest, then pull out so that cover crop can be sowed. The winder veggies are under way including perpetual silverbeet and winter sprouting broccoli. And the rain has come back. 🙂

  5. LOL … some typos are amusing … "winder veggies" has a tendency to send the unwary mind off in all sorts of amusing highways and byways …Ah, that slowdown in work orders … does it do to you what it always did to me? It was best expressed one day as I sat at a table in the Berghoff restaurant, with another freelancer looking for work: "when I'm working, I don't have time to spend it; when I'm not working, I'm afraid to spend it.""A freelancer's lot is not a' nappy one," … apologies to W.S. Gilbert.

  6. I blame my fingers for the typos. :left:Originally posted by derWandersmann:

In my case, '… when I'm not working, I don't know how to spend it.' Often I just follow my cat's example: lie down & stretch on floor in the sun.

  7. LOL … I assume you have a mat, however thin, for such periods … I cannot imagine a well-regulated Japanese household without mats to sit or lie on. Hardwood is beautiful, and easy to care for, but it is HARD.I was going to ask you if you recognised any of the places I couldn't identify in my series of Gemini digitisations, but, even though some missions did overfly New Zealand, I don't think they took many pictures there.
