Delightful snowscape

When arrived, the "significant nationwide weather event", "the big chill" "the polar blast direct from Antarctica" and "once in the lifetime snow", aka snowmageddon, indeed caused a widespread disruption in transport and electricity supply, and many businesses and schools to close and some household to lose the power. …

The British actor Stephen Fry, who happened to be in Wellington for shooting of "The Hobbit", tweeted this on 15th August,

Wellington is beside itself with delight. Snow falling in the nation's capital for the first time for 35 years they tell me.

 Although we did see ground snow up in the hill suburbs in 1995, this was indeed the first time since 1976 the city centre and lower suburbs saw snow, as shown in this remarkable video.

I was quite a wuss and never ventured out beyond the mailbox (and the mail delivery was also stopped for two days!). But made a photographic record of this delightful "snowmageddon" event.

These are the two of my favourites of my snowscape pictures. Click the first one to see more snowscape under daylight. Click the second one to see more snowscape in fronzen mornings, aka the pyjama photos. :p

  1. Wow… what an incredible view! No wonder you didn't bother venturing out. 😀Originally posted by MM:

Our weather people go on all winter about "cold, Canadian air" blowing down into Ohio. So it's all Canada's fault. :irked:

  2. Thanks, Deb. I wish I had. But as I said before, my cold tolerance has almost non-existence lately.Originally posted by debplatt:

😆 Imagine you didn't have Canada in between and getting the freezing air flow directly from the Arctic circle. Wouldn't you appreciate having Canada shielding you from the worst? 😀

  3. Well now that you put it that way, it was very chivalrous of them to step between ourselves and that cold, Arctic air. Here's one of the gallant Canadians.

Yes. The loyal subjects of the British Empire. :knight:

  5. A little snow… Big deal! :p But I could kill for a view like that  Only kidding :jester:

Actually it's polar blast direct from the Antarctica. You have Russia between you and the Arctic to shield you from the polar blast, don't you? :p The only thing between us and the Antarctica is the ocean. Originally posted by serola:

And I can have it in my pyjamas 😆

  9. You are evil :awww: Turning the knife like that 😀 Well, I have a plan… I steal one of your pictures, enlarge it a lot, and hang it on the wall of office building other side of the street 😀

  10. I think we had that much snow in Tyler this past winter; however, I only saw it from the hospital windows, as I spent the whole winter in the hospital. I saw the snow out my hospital room window, and from my wheelchair on my therapy runs down the glassed-in hallways. I hope it doesn't happen again this winter. I can't stand cold.

At least the hospital was warm enough wasn't it? I think your last winter = our this winter is particularly cold one. Hopefully next one is kinder to us. And I shall try to be better prepared with firewood supplies next year.
