Winds from west

Finally got around to posting the pics I took on a wheeled excursion to West Wind Recreational Area & Wind farm.

(Click the thumbnails above to see the photo gallery ;)) …

West Wind Farm has been developed by Meridian Energy. The work started in 2007, building the 62 wind turbines and other infrastructure. Now the work is complete, the area is open to the public as West Wind Rcreational Area.

This was my first excursion to the area. I enjoyed the great weather and amazing scenery, probably spending more time taking pictures than walking.

I plan to do another, walk focused, outing to the area later, hopefully before the area is temporarily closed for lambing in August and September.

  1. They are magnificent, aren't they? :DOriginally posted by darkesthour:

The wind seems to be more Southerly recently though

Will be another cold winter, you reckon?

  2. It has been quite cold here, even during the day.. The sun is out though.

  3. Awesome devices  The wind seems to be more Southerly recently though :eyes:

  4. Was cold about a week ago. The last couple of days were quite mild. I did some digging outside, tidying the spent vegie patch. Belatedly sowed some free pea seeds (from missed pods) for green manure. See how they get on. 🙂

  5. Hope so. I heard the peas are quite hardy and would germinate even in cold soil. Also young pea shoots are said to be quite delicious stir-fried. Good to have something still growing. Beside the main bed, I also have a small bed of "Perpetual" (spinach like) silverbeets giving me a good supply of winter green. 🙂

  6. Silver beet is good. I roll tinned tomatoes, cream cheese, onion and sunflower seeds into the silver beet (blanched and stemmed) then bake it with grated cheese over the top. Nice cheap meal

I shall remember to plant garlic, too.

  8. Sure!! :DActually, been to the garden centre and bought myself two pots of blue berries. Wishful thinking? 😆

Pour a little milk over frozen blueberries and stir vigorously, crushing blueberries as they thaw a little. You'll get an instant blueberry gelato. 😀

  10. Tastes rather rustic. ;)Off to get dinner sorted. Thanks for stopping by, DH. TTFN :bye:

  11. Windy area there in NZ! It looks great and I would like to accompany you on your photo tours – but it is tooooo far for a little trip. :awww:

  12. Make a detour here on you nest NZ trip :DThose wind turbines are made by a German company, Siemens. So there's a strong German connection, too. 🙂

  13. So I was right because of the native feeling. Such mills are everywhere here in the Lower Rhine.

  14. In NZ it looks much better than here in good Old Germany. The surrounding is great!!

  15. They look magnificent no matter where they are. Now that's another great German design. Like these. 😉

  16. Some people think they ruin the landscape but I disagree 🙂 Wind turbines look like art to me

  17. I used to fettle cast iron castings as an apprentice (Trim or clean the rough edges of a metal casting). We had four Makita angle grinders –http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angle_grinderand one Bosch angle grinder. During my four year apprenticeship, all four Makita grinders were consigned to the scrap heap. However the Bosch remained, it was barely broken in. I ALWAYS buy Bosch tools as a result, Bosch is awesome, they make good ovens and hobs too
