What was she up to!?

Arwen the silly little monkey cat went AWOL yesterday morning. :awww: …

I was a bit concerned when she did not come to my call at lunch time for a treat of a milky bowl to lick. I really started to worry when it's almost dusk but she was still nowhere to be seen. I went out several times to look for her.

I was getting quite worried, even thinking the picture I took the day before could become her last lively photo!

Then I remembered one of my neighbours went away taking their dog with them. The timing of their car leaving and Arwen going missing seemed to coincide. Arwen is silly but not that silly to get into their car, but she could have wandered inside the house after the dog was taken out, then been locked in by accident when they left. So I went to investigate their house.

I must have looked a little mad and/or suspicious, walking around the empty property in dark and shining torch light into windows. I could not see or hear Arwen, but she must be there! I looked up the phone book, found the number of the neighbour's parents and called them. They assured me they would come tomorrow morning to help me look for my cat.

That made me feel much better. I was able to go to bed relatively relieved, reassuring myself Arwen should be found tomorrow.

Still I could not sleep well, unable to stop thinking about other, more sinister possibilities … :insane:

I finally managed to go to sleep, probably past midnight. Suddenly, I woke and realised Arwen had just jumped up on my bed!! She simply walked over me and curled up on her regular position. I asked her where she was and what she was up to. Of course I didn't get any answer. :irked:

I still think she was locked in somewhere and managed to make her way out somehow. But I guess I will never find out exactly what happened. I've rung my neighbour's parents to let them know about the happy outcome. But I'm feeling rather drained myself.

Now I'm thinking of getting her microchipped, for peace of mind just in case she disappears again.

:coffee:

  1. Can you get her microchipped in such a way that a GPS thingy can spot her?My old white cat disappeared once for a week … I was frantic. Somehow he had to have gotten out of the house. I searched the neighbourhood, and even asked my dog "Find Mr. Cat, Ruthie", and each time she led me to the blank back wall of my garage. I just figured that she didn't understand, and we'd go on with her walk. Finally, one of the neighbours mentioned that she had seen a white cat by the trash containers at the alley, so I went into the garage, but not for the car, this time. I looked up, and there he was, looking down at me from a pile of chairs (don't ask). I got him down and he seemed all right, except for a few scratches from nail points protruding through the roof. There was a wild, green light in his eyes that took several days to fade. Ruthie was right, though … that's where he had gotten into the garage. I had had a piece of siding bulging away from the studs, and he went in under. And after he'd gone in, maybe a few days later, I'd used a few drywall screws to mend the hole, so he was stuck.

I don't know if positioning is available. I'll ask at the vet when I make booking. Of course it could be available but hugely expensive, unaffordable and/or even ineffective, considering she normally stays within 50m radius of home.Originally posted by derWandersmann:

Amazing how accurate the dog's nose is. Maybe I should get a dog instead of microchip for her, to keep an eye on her whereabouts.

  3. It is not good when they disappear like that, one cat went for nearly a week once. Probably locked in a garage (they are nosy creatures). Good that Arwen has returned, but isn't it annoying not knowing where she was?

I would love to find out. If she was at another neighbour's house locked in, and someone noticed her and let her out, I may eventually hear about it.

The man's best friend! :yes:I remember a seizure detecting service dog appeared in "My Sister's Keeper" Hope their services are more widely recognised.

  7. A catwatch dog.As far as the dog's nose goes, I definitely trust the dog … one time, when I'd had a minor surgery, a few days afterwards, I developed a slight infection … I made an appointment with the surgeon, and he said "Oh, yes … there's a little pocket here that's trapping stuff. How did you find it?" I said "My dog found it; she wouldn't let me alone about it, so I figured I'd ask you."They're finding dogs nowadays to not only detect dope, but all sorts of subtle diseases, like siezures, cancer, and blood-pressure drop.

I totally agree. A real tear-jerker with a gritty core. Great cast and acting. Especially Sofia Vassilieva (Kate)'s was breath-taking and heart breaking. I think she really had her hair shaven to tackle that role. :star:

I think that if she waqs locked in that house she must have been too confused to look for a way out.Cats can sleep for three days or so. So maybe she wasn't worried about finding her way out, expecting her neighbours to come back any time soon and release her. Then when you went around there at that odd time she must have realised it was time she woke up and smelled the cat food.It looks like she came straight to you once she found her way out.BTW Arwen is a Welsh name. Is it also one where you live?

  10. You are probably right about her too confused or (more likely) sleeping to find the way out. Strangely she didn't ask for food when she came home. I wonder if she found some food there, too. :rolleyes:Originally posted by Weatherlawyer:

Didn't know Arwen being Welsh name. I named her after Lady Arwen of Lord of the Rings.

Arwen in Lord of the Rings is a fair lady with beautiful black hair. So I thought it was a fitting name. Originally posted by Weatherlawyer:

😆 Arwen is a silly elfish one. :p
